To see Yaw Amponsah play drums is to see a master at work. Coming from a musical family from West Africa he is at home in the world of rhythm. He makes very difficult rhythms seem very easy. A versatile player he can play many styles of music from Ghana including Palmwine, Highlife, Odonson, Dagbani, Agbacha, and Kpanlogo. Also he knows how to play djembe music of Mali and Guinea, and even beats of popular Congolese music.

YAS brings new rhythmic intensity to spoken word. Coming straight out of Nantes, France, Yas took her lifelong love of poetry to the next level of slam poetry in 2005, competing at the French National Poetry slam competition. Fast, furious, and audacious, her flow continues to develop into new realms of funky beats.

James Whetzel is a uniquely eclectic performer. He plays both acoustic music and electronic music. He sings his own West African palmwine songs and he sings original songs inspired by Indian folk and Classical music while playing the fretless Indian lute called sarod. Also he recites "tabla poetry," which are spoken word pieces based on the mesmerizing beats of the Indian tabla drums. He is also a highly skilled and innovative Tuvan style throat singer.

Shri Deepayan is a percussionist, DJ and producer. He was introduced to the wonderful world of tabla at the age of five and learnt the intricacies of the drum and taals for over a decade. He has showcased the versatility of TABLA, "the king of drums", with the swinging rhythms of flamenco, Jazz, trance, drum and bass, and is constantly searching for new ideas and sounds.

Mean Deep is a creation of the tabla player, DJ, and producer Deepayan Acharjya, and the multi-instrumentalist, DJ, producer, and singer James Whetzel.
The group mixes Deepayan's love for tricky Indian beats with James's love for funky layers of African rhythm.
